Properties and Uses:

Choleretic; stomachic; sedative; diuretic; sternutatory; antihelmintic. Formerly used as a tonic where quinine was contraindicated; in rheumatism; and in certain urinary tract infections, including gonorrhea. Often benefit in the treatment of hepatic congestion and gallstones; used to stimulate the secretion and release of bile, and hence to aid digestion, and as a tonic in gall-bladder disease. The powdered leaf may be used to induce sneezing.
