Ground Ivy
Glechoma hederacea
Properties and Uses:
Appetizer, astringent, digestive, diuretic, pectoral, stimulant, tonic. Ground ivy is helpful in relieving diarrhea and inflammation of mucous membranes, as in colds, sore throat and bronchitis. Snuffling the fresh juice up the nose often helps nasal congestion and headache. It has been used for problems caused by hyperacidity, for catarrhal enteritis, and for liver ailments Ground ivy has also been beneficial in cases of neurasthenia and morbid hysteria; and, made Into a bath additive it is said to be good for sciatica gout, gravel, and stones. The fresh juice may be given to small children, a few drops at a time, for tummy ache. To stimulate appetite and promote digestion, use a decoction of dried herb.
CAUTION: In very large quantities ground ivy can be poisonous.
